Day 1
Morning pick-up from Kolkata & start your Jhargram Trip. Jhargram is approx 174km by road travel from Kolkata, it takes around 4 hrs to reach. (It is well connected by rail also from Howrah station). By lunchtime, we will reach Jhargram. After lunch, we will start our short sightseeing visit to Chilki Garh Rajbari, Kanak Durga Temple, Kendua, Medicinal Plants Garden & Jungle Mahal Zoological Park. Evening free for leisure. Overnight stay at Jhargram.
Day 2
After breakfast, we will start our today’s program, first visit Gadrasini Hill & Khandarani Lake. Then visit Ketki Falls and Laljal Cave. Lunch break at Belpahari. After lunch visit Ghagra River & Kankrajhor Forest. Evening back to Jhargram. Overnight stay at Hotel.
Day 3
After breakfast check out from Hotel. First, we will visit Jhargram Rajbari & then Sabitri Mandir. After that, we will start our return journey to Kolkata. Tour ends with sweet memories.

1. Jhargram Raj Palace
JhargramRaj Palace is the most important and precious attraction of the Jhargram District. It is a big and well-decorated palace with unique architectural attractions. This palace is the silent witness of huge historical incidents. 1574.AD Man Singh had come to conquer Bengal on behalf of Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great from Rajasthan (Erstwhile Rajputana Kingdom).
He appointed his loyal officer in the army, Sarveshwar Singh to defeat the local tribal rulers of the region known as Jungalkhand, The area belonged to Malla Raja. Raja Sarveshwar Singh defeated the tribal rulers of the Mallas and adopted the surname Malla Deb and set up his kingdom with its capital naming it Jhargram. Jhargram Rajbari is the current residence of the Malla Dev Royal family and a melting pot of culture, tradition, rich heritage. It is a structure combining the Italian and Islamic architecture models. This palace can be seen in many popular films too.
2. Savitri Temple
Goddess Savitri is the ancestral deity of the Malla Dev dynasty of Jhargram, she is worshipped in form of Durga. There is no specific idol kept in the temple but a stone believed to have the divine embodiment of Goddess is worshipped here.
The worship is strictly followed according to Puranas the ancient Hindu religious texts during the Durga Puja as Brahmins recite hymns from the scriptures from the Devi Mahatmyam (Chandi Path) for ten days from Mahalaya to Dashami followed by the Maha Aarti on Durga Ashtami the eighth day of this orthodox worship and the Ritual drummers(dhakis) carrying large drums(dhaks) to show off their skills. The rituals of the Durga Puja are still organized and performed by the Royal Family of Jhargram.
3. Jungle Mahal Zoological Park
Junglemahal Zoological Park earlier known as Jhargram Zoo has been established as a Deer Park in the year 1980, within a patch of natural forest of Jhargram Division at Jhargram. This Park will endeavor to breed the endangered species for display, exchange & rehabilitation in the wild. As such the flora & fauna exist in their natural pristine glory unhindered and unaffected. At present Junglemahal Zoological Park has 147 Nos. Mammals, 65 Nos. Birds, 147 Nos. Reptiles. The total area of the Park is 21.54 hectares.
4. Kendua Migrating Birds
Kendua is 9kms away from Jhargram town and situated on the way to Chilkigarh. Kendua is a small village and a birding hotspot on Jhargram-Chilkigarh road. Migratory birds visit Kendua in the month of May announcing the onset of the monsoon and leaving by November, they hatch their eggs and fly away. A walk through the Kendua village is more like a walk through the woods in a dense forest.
The diversification of birds along with the change of nature from time to time is mesmerizing. For a breathtaking experience in the lap of nature, Kendua village is a must-visit for nature-thirsty people. So don’t waste another minute and visit this village right now with your loved ones. Different types of birds have been sighted at Kendua.
5. Kanak Durga Temple
A visit to Kanak Durga Temple gives a thrilling experience of natural beauty. It is about 14 km away from Jhargram town. The century-old temple is located in the forest beside a small charming river named Dulung. Several uncommon species of trees, birds, and monkeys can see here. There’s a spot called Kendua on the way to Kanak Durga. Migratory birds visit the area in winter. A half an hour visit through the dense forest gives a charming experience.
6. Chilkigarh Raj Palace
It is located 1.5 km away from Kanak Durga Temple and located on another side of the Dulung river. Jamboni Zamindari- Raja Gopinath Singh Matagaj was the last ruler of 110.63 km2 Jamboni Estate and had 4 wives Rani Govindamani Devi, Rani Champani Devi, Rani Thakurmani Devi, and Rani Durgamani Devi and only one daughter Rani Subarnamani Devi through Rani Champamani Devi (married to Raja Jaganath Deo Dhabal Dev VII of Dhalbhum).
He died in 1765 AD without any male heir and along with him his two wives Rani Champamoni Devi and Rani Thakurmoni Devi committed Sati with their husband. The administration of the estate devolved upon his widow senior dowager Rani Govindamani Devi who died in 1818. In the year 1822, Midnapore District Court declared Raja Gopinath Singh Matgajs’s eldest grandson Rajkumar Kamalakanta Deo Dhabal Dev of Dhalbhum, through his only child as the legal heir to the gaddi of Jamboni estate, and Rajkumar Kamalkanta Deo Dhabal Dev won the court case in Midnapore district court and was coronated as Raja of Jamboni in Chilkigarh, the capital of Jamboni estate.
Raja Gopinath Singh Matagaja is credited to have consecrated the Gold Idol of Devi Kanak Durga in the jungles of Chilkigarh as per divine instruction. His wife Rani Govindamani Devi contributed her gold bangles towards the making of the golden idol and hence the name Kanak Durga meaning Golden Durga.
7. Kakrajhor Forest
It is 8 km away from Gadrasini hill at the lap of Singlohor hill. The hidden beauty of mountains and forests welcomes everyone. This is an ideal place for Jungle lovers & trekkers. Moyurjharna is very close to Kankrajhore. Here nature explores herself will all beauty. It is a trekking wonderland in the tropical, hilly forestlands of Midnapur. 'Kankra' means missing while 'Jhor' means jungles and forests. Kankrajhor comprises 9,000 hectares of hardwood trees including Kusum, shall, Segun or teak, mahua and akashmani. Cashew nuts, coffee, and oranges are cultivated at Kankrajhor.
8. Hatibari Forest Bungalow
It is about 22 km from Gopiballavpur. This place has the real attraction of forest. Towering trees stand in pin-drop silence as sunlight filters through the leaves creating shadows on the ground. The serene ambiance of the river and the forest will make everyone speechless. The River Subarnarekha is surrounded by forest on both sides.
9. Jhilli Pakhiraloy (Jhilli lake)
It is about 22 km away from Gopiballavpur. The huge water body in the forest gives a great cynic beauty. Huge numbers of migratory birds visit the area in winter.
10. Ghagra Water Falls, Belpahari
Ghagra is about 7 km north of Belpahari. It is actually a waterfall passing through a canyon of black stone. The word “Ghagra” came from the word “gagra” which means a Kalash filled up with water. Actually, the shape of the canyon is like a Kalash. Tharafeni dam is very closed to Ghagra.
11. Rameswar Temple
The Rameshwar temple is located beside the Subarnarekha river. Rameshwar is about 65 km away from Jhargram. Local; people believe that Sita requested Ram memory to construct the temple of Lord Shiva and the temple constructed with the assistance of Vishwakarma. The temple is of the ideal combination of architecture and science. It has no window but Sunlight comes inside the temple.
12. Gadrasini Hill
This hill is situated about 6 Km away from Khandarani Dam with the appealing beauty of nature. There is a temple at the top of the hill at 300 meters in height. Here nature is very calm with hills, trees, birds and flowers.
13. Khandarani Dam
Khandarani Dam snuggled in the lap of pristine nature. It is the place where myriad-faceted nature comes in its fullest magnificence. Here the lake meets with captivating forests as well as mountains. The multi-colored migratory birds spend their winter here. The beauty of nature spreads everywhere around Khandarani Dam Area.
14. Laljal Cave
It is about 68 Km away from the city of Jhargram. The clean road through the forest gives pleasure to the eyes. The last 3 km of the journey through the red-dirt road on a rocky hill. The place witness remains a place of an ancient civilization. The cave is at the high of 200 meters with black stones. It is believed that it was the living place of primitive cavemen about 5000 years ago. Some fossils found here by archaeological excavation are preserved in museums. Water is mixed with Copper and iron. Local people say because of the red color of the water in the name of the area is laljal.
