India is home to more than 1300 species of birds and about 467 Important Bird Areas (IBA) which include 59 bird sanctuaries. These sanctuaries and IBAs are inhabited by birds like Indian peafowl, pheasants, quails, francolin, hornbill, and snowcocks. Some of the top bird sanctuaries on the list of wildlife adventure are:

Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Rajasthan

Sultanpur Bird Santuary, Harayana

During the ideal period of September to March, the ornithologists and the bird-lovers can make a sure shot visit in this area where safari is not available but the tourist can enjoy nature’s walk in area during the day time. Although the park is open throughout the area for the people to enjoy picnic and lucrative moments here.

How to Reach

By Air : 45 kms away in Delhi at IGI Airport, the tourists can de-board themselves to reach the sanctuary within 20 minutes.

By Rail : The New Delhi Railway Station is the nearest station for the ornithologists to catch the tremendous species of avi-faunas.

Chilika Lake Bird Sanctuary, Odisha

The weather remains moderately warm the whole year round, so one can visit this place any time of the year except during the rainy season from June to September. The best time, however, is from October to March, when the lake is crowded with migrating birds, usually at least 50-70 species.

How to Reach?

By Air : The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar located at 120 km away from where taxis, trains and buses are available towards the lake.

By Train : The tourists can find the nearest rail stations at Balugaon, on the Howrah-Chennai track. From Balugaon buses are available to the lake.

By Road : A part of Chilka Lake is visible from NH5 and the Howrah-Chennai train track. Many buses ply from Bhubaneswar (Baramunda Bus Station) and Cuttack (Badambadi Bus Station) to Balugaon throughout the day, OSRTC buses (i.e. state run buses) have the frequent and fastest services. It’s a 2 hours journey from Bhubaneswar. From there, one has to hire a taxi or an auto-rickshaw to reach Barkul or Rambha (In case of Rambha, passengers can alight at Keshpur, which is further ahead from Balugaon, and from there hire an auto-rickshaw). Satapada is well connected by daily local buses from Puri. Visitors can take an OTDC day tour from Puri to see Satapada. However, Satapada is not so well connected from Bhubaneswar and taxis have to be hired to get there.

Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary, Gujarat

Just 65 kms. Southwest of Ahmedabad, is the delightful bird sanctuary of Nalsarovar nestling around the Nal Lake, extending over 11,500 hectares. Established in 1969 A.D., 

How to get there

Air and Rail: The nearest airport and railway station are at Ahmedabad, 65 kms. away.

Road: Nalsarovar can be easily accessed from Ahmedabad by state and private buses.
